What & How I pack

Yay!!! I am so excited to write this post… honestly, not really for the post itself, BUT because I am going on a girls trip this weekend and I am SO excited! I never get to go on girls trips! I have received a number of ‘how do you pack?’ questions, so I figured this was the perfect chance to show yall! I am sorry… but I am not dedicated enough to pack and photograph a fake suitcase for you guys, so this post had to wait for an actual trip! lol! I honestly was not quite sure what to say… I pack clothes, hats, and makeup… and hair tools! But thats about it! I will say that I use my packing cubes though, and I swear by them!! They keep everything so organized so that it is not a jumbled mess!! Also, I LOVE my suit case! It is a hard-shell from amazon and it has been on so many trips… it is sturdy, still looks brand new, AND fits in an airplane compartment! Win win win!!! (I will link everything I use below this) I will say that having a hard-shell suitcase has been a must for me! Side note: I am the most frugal person alive… buying things like bras, suitcases, dishwasher soap…. ya know, all the expensive boring adult things, I hate!! LOL. It took me about three years to purchase my own bra after my mom stopped buying me things… hahaha! I’m dying laughing as I type this…. ‘why am I sharing this info with millions of people, Katy?’! lol! They are just so expensive and I had ones already so not point in buying my own… ya know? ANYWHOOOOO back to the suitcase… wow, that was a curve ball if I ever threw one in! lol! It took me about 2 years to buy my own suitcase and I am SO glad I did! Although I rarely use it, I get SO excited when I do! It has so many storage compartments, really cute color, holds up great, and 4 wheels! I would say having a good suitcase and the packing cubes I talked about above are a must for packing!

Below I will list out how I typically pack each packing cube:

  • Undies, bras, bralette
  • Hair ties, bobby pins, clips, brush, teasing comb, extra hair accessories
  • Hair tools- Curling iron, blow dryer, & straightener
  • Skin care items- I use the Tula Travel kit
  • Makeup- I usually pack all of my makeup & brushes together. I am pretty simple and don’t use a lot.. and not very picky! I just throw it all in!
  • Bath products- shampoo & conditioner, deodorant, dry shampoo, perfume, and lotion

Since my suitcase has inclosed sides on both sides, I typically pack clothing on one side, and 1 pair of shoes. Then, my packing cubes on the other side with my remaining shoes. One of my biggest tips for packing in a smaller suit case, with lots of things, is the roll trick! I roll everything! MY jeans, tees, jackets, everything! It saves so much room, and also helps as far as being able to see items easily in your suitcase without having to take everything apart! Also, if I am packing a hat, I roll two shirts and place them inside- this way the hat stays filled and does not crush!! I hope this helps ladies… like I said, nothing ground breaking! lol!

Pack shoe and boots in cloth bags or plastic bags to keep the dirt from soles getting on other things in the suitcase, tj maxx often sells cute embroidered shoe and boot bags in the travel section.
