This recipe has been in my family for YEARS!! It is hands down, my favorite meal! I request it for every birthday/special occasion. Even Jake request it for HIS birthday now! He asks my momma allllll the time for Tumi Salad! lol! I am so excited to be sharing with you guys!
Flank Steak (serves 4-5 people depending on size of steak) :
- 1/2 cup of soy sauce
- 4 Tbs of honey
- 1 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1 cup of veggie oil
- 1 bunch of sliced green onion
- 2 Tbs of minced garlic
- 1 1/2 lbs flank steak (HAS TO BE A FLANK STEAK)
6-24 hours before having dinner (I like to marinate a day early for more flavor, my mom does the morning of), get a large dish that can fully submerge the steak in the marinate. Combine all ingredients listed above, and place steak over the top. I slice little cuts all over he steak, and flip it over to allow the sauce to get inside. Cover and refrigerate until an hour before cooking. An hour out, take dish out of refrigerator, and let sit at room temp. We always cook ours on the grill! But, you can broil in an oven if need be. Place on grill (KEEP REMAINING SAUCE) and cook each side roughly 4 minutes, or until crispy on the outside, and pink on the inside. While cooking the meat, pour the remaining sauce into a microwave safe bowl or sauce pan, and heat sauce up. We typically do 1:30 in the microwave. Set aside and use as a steak condiment. Once steak is done on the grill, remove it and place on a serving platter, and cut into thin sections to serve.
Tumi Salad (serves 4-5 people) :
- Cole slaw mix/Shredded cabbage
- 3 tablespoons of toasted pine nuts (place on a cookie sheet and toast in the oven for roughly 4-5 minutes at 350)
- 1 package of UNCOOKED chicken ramen noodles
- 1 bunch of sliced green onions
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 flavor packet from the bag of ramen noodles
- 1 1/2 tablespoons of Accent
- 1 cup of veggie oil
- 6 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Roughly 20-30 minutes before eating, begin to prepare salad. Start by cooking pine nuts and breaking apart the block of ramen. The ramen needs to be UNCOOKED and broken into small bite size pieces. Save the chicken flavor packet and use it as a seasoning for the sauce. Begin mixing all ingredients listed above in a large serving bowl, and stir until cole slaw mix is fully covered in sauce.
- Time: 30 minutes
- Prep time: 24 hours
- Serves: 4-5 people
Yum!! How long do you cook steak if doing in the oven?
Thanks!
This may be a dumb question but for the salad, what is Accent?
Accent is that brand of seasoning she has pictured above with other ingredients!
Thank you!! 🙂 🙂
Looks delish! What temp do you have the grill at?
Looks so delicious! What about the everything but the bagel seasoning pictured for the tumi salad?
What is Accent?
It’s MSG
Is that for just one bag of the Cole slaw mix or more? A cup of oil plus everything else seems like a lot of dressing
Yummmy!!! Thank you for sharing recipes. They are my favorite things you share!
Seriously people she’s not a chef… Why all of the questions to her?? She is just sharing what looks like to be a good recipe. I think we are all old enough to figure some of these cooking questions out yourself or by trial and error. Let the girl just post the recipe without all the questions. On a side note this looks delicious can’t wait to try it!! Thanks for sharing.
Take your criticism somewhere else Dawn. We dont want to hear it….

Can’t wait to try this weekend!!! Thank you for sharing ?
I just made this tonight! It was really good and my husband liked it a lot as well. The only thing I couldn’t get behind was using the raw meat marinade as a sauce to eat with but otherwise it was really good. The Tumi Salad was a real pleasant surprise!
Is there a way to pin this to my Pinterest recipe page?? I don’t want to lose track of this recipe.
This was so good! Made it last night. Thanks for sharing ?
